In Greek mythology, food was an integral part of their religious customs and was known to keep illness at bay. Avglomeno is a chicken broth that is cooked with vegetables, chicken and spices. It is good to keep cold and depression away and is one of the traditional recipes of the Greek cuisine.

Greek cuisines are also known for their tempting desserts like Baklava that is made from dough and baked with nuts and honey. Another interesting dessert is the Lokumades that is similar to Baklava but is deep fried. It also has a rich flavor and filled with nuts and honey. They are then topped with fried white sesame. The Greeks have a rich line up of delicious desserts and are also loved by people from various regions.

Savory dishes like Moussaka is a complete meal by itself. It is a typical Greek casserole and is made with vegetables, minced lamb, spices and a lot of freshly picked vegetables. A Moussaka is a must in any Greek wedding banquet and perfectly suitable for dinner. Another interesting dish similar to Moussaka is the Sovlaki. It is made using Zucchini, chicken broth, baby potatoes, spring onions and other seasonal vegetables. They are skewed and served hot with local condiments.

Greek cuisine is a royal treat to many and the flavors of the food are rich and true to its culture. Many of the traditional recipes are improvised and their flavor is enhanced to suit the modern Greeks. The use of vegetables in all their dishes is the significant point, owing to the rich organic produce. There concept of dining with food is a rich experience and to wrap up, having a glass of fine wine is the best way. The taste of food from the ancient people of Greece can still be witnessed and experienced in these modern times from this Mediterranean land and the Greek palate is always full!
